The Escape Project

Chris Walker

If you’re not particularly bothered about what the Escape Project is, and just want to start reading, then by all means jump right in:

Put simply, the Escape Project is a sci-fi novel. It started off as a challenge over on my LiveJournal, to:

Write a drabble (100 words exactly) based on your current default icon. No changing it! Any fandom or no fandom at all.

My default user icon at the time happened to be a picture of the top half of my head, so I didn’t have a lot to go on. I had, however, been reading a lot of Iain M. Banks books, so I was able to construct an entire science fiction setting and half a story to go with it. Of course, at this point I didn’t entirely appreciate the difficulty involved in compressing my idea down to a hundred words, which seemed loads to me at the time. The final drabble felt like a mere starting point, and I couldn’t just let it lie there. I had too many good ideas.

So the Escape Project was born. Which is, by the way, a working title that will probably become the final title when I get too attached to it.

Reading the novel

There are a bunch of different ways you can read:

  • Chapter by chapter, by pressing the ‘Start Reading’ button above. Use the red links to move forward and back.
  • Using the Atom feed (it’s like RSS only better!). This will automatically let you know when I upload a new segment.
  • If you’re a LiveJournal user, you can add the syndicated feed as a friend. New entries will show up on your friends page.
  • Download in PDF format. This is best for offline reading. I’ll stick a new PDF up every time I add a new segment, to keep it all in one document.
